After a decade of success, Black Angus Fine Meats & Game extended their passion for quality ingredients and local sourcing to the Township of Georgian Bay in 2016. Owner-Operator Sean Kelly founded the small company in 2005 based on a commitment to delivering the best in game meats, rare breeds and Canadian Beef. A food enthusiast’s dream come true, Black Angus Muskoka extended their offerings to include fresh produce, cheese and other Canadian-made artisan food products when opening the Muskoka Market in MacTier, Georgian Bay. Black Angus Muskoka supports Georgian Bay’s mission of sustainability while delivering on their own philosophy of “bringing good food to everybody’s table” by partnering with local suppliers and providing ethically-sourced products.
After setting up shop in Muskoka, Black Angus became immediately involved with the local community. They donated a dinner at the MacTier Legion and delivered over a dozen food baskets, including whole turkeys, vegetables and bread, to families in need for Thanksgiving. While connecting with the people at the Legion, Sean learned that their furnace was in need of replacement. He was eager to provide support and established a donation fund for the Legion to help with the purchase of a new furnace.
Sean appreciates Muskoka’s calm pace and beautiful scenery after so many years spent in the city. Following the first location in MacTier, he “fell in love with Muskoka” and decided to open a butcher shop in Port Carling, Muskoka Lakes. This location offers some of the most interesting, nutritious and tasty cuts of meat you’ll ever find. When asked what advice Sean would give to businesses looking to open in the Muskoka region he stated,
“You have to be open to seasonality and get involved in the community. It’s important to invest yourself into where you’re doing business and help people.”
